Setup, answers, and a human who replies. How do I set up automatic capture?
Once, and it takes about two minutes (the app also walks you through this from the ? button):
- Open Shortcuts → Automation → +.
- Choose Transaction, select your Apple Pay card(s), and pick Run Immediately.
- Add the action Record Payment (from Bank Tracker).
- Map the automation's
Shortcut Inputto the action's Merchant, Amount and Card fields. - For payment locations, pass Current Location into the action's optional Location field.
Payments from the selected cards can now be recorded. After adding or replacing a card in Wallet, update the Transaction trigger or create an automation for that card.
A payment didn't show up. Why?
- Only Apple Pay payments trigger the iOS Transaction automation. Purchases made with the physical card are invisible to iOS and can't be captured — that's an Apple platform boundary, not a bug.
- Check the automation is set to Run Immediately (not "Ask Before Running").
- New and replacement Wallet cards must be included in the Transaction trigger. The app cannot update that selection for you.
- Make sure Merchant, Amount and Card use Shortcut Input, not a card name typed into the action.
- Some transactions omit fields; complete them in the Payments tab. Missed Wallet history cannot be imported, but you can add a payment using +.
Why did a payment appear in the wrong city?
Earlier versions guessed a location from the merchant name or your location when you opened the app. A chain's name cannot identify the branch where you paid. The updated map only uses locations provided by the payment automation or confirmed by you; old guesses stay off the map.
Open the payment, tap Add location or Correct location, search for the shop and city (for example, Valencia), check the pin, and save. This corrects that payment without moving other payments from the same merchant.
Can I add cash or physical-card purchases?
Yes — add a payment manually from the Payments tab. It flows through the same categories, budget and stats as captured ones.
How do categories learn?
When you correct a payment's category, Bank Tracker saves a rule for that merchant. The next payment from the same merchant is filed automatically. You can also create your own categories with custom icons and colors.
Why doesn't rent count against my budget?
Fixed costs (rent, insurance…) are predictable, so they count in your monthly totals and stats but are kept out of the day-to-day budget — the budget stays a signal about the spending you can actually change. Subscriptions, by contrast, do count against the budget.
Is my data really only on my phone?
Your payment log is stored on your iPhone and covered by your normal iOS backups. Map searches and rendering use Apple Maps; street-map stickers use OpenFreeMap. Shared images go to the recipient or app you choose. Apple provides subscription services. See the privacy policy for the data used by each feature.
Does Bank Tracker read my bank account?
No — and that's the point. It never connects to your bank, never sees your credentials, and never touches Wallet directly. It only receives what the iOS Shortcuts automation you created passes along: merchant, amount and card name.
What do I need to run it?
An iPhone on iOS 17 or later with an Apple Pay card for automatic capture. You can also enter payments manually. The spending map and expense sharing are part of Bank Tracker Pro; current prices and trial eligibility are shown before purchase.
